Excerpt

Gruff fingers yank a blindfold off my face, light splashes into my eyes, and I blink. Gray walls swim about my head, and the ceiling soars much too high above me. I don’t know this place. I was walking to my bathroom when someone grabbed me from behind and forced a sour-smelling cloth over my face and—someone grapples with my hair, and I flinch. Who—who is touching me?

I try turning in the flimsy chair, but someone’s grabbing my shoulders, forcing me not to move. Spasms of fear shoot up and down my arms and legs. I try swinging my fists to make them loosen their grip, but my captor’s fingers only tighten.

Raising my arm to jab my captor in the gut, I pause. Someone’s laughing. How do I know that sound? It’s beautiful and low, a laugh I could recognize anywhere. Glancing around the sun-filled room, I find the source almost immediately. It’s Teo, my Teo, standing across from me on the hardwood floor, beaming at me. His ebony eyes shine forth like two onyx stones, and even his olive-toned skin makes me breathe a bit shallower. Choking back a strangled laugh—no one’s here to hurt me—I reach out for the love of my life, too tongue-tied to say anything.

His lips spread into a thin smile, reminding me of his mouth melting into my own. Fire raged beneath my skin with that kiss and it felt like I was lifted up into the air and floating. It’s been six days since our kiss and we still haven’t been able to talk about it. I tried repeatedly to go into his classroom, but it was like our school had purposely decided to schedule a more than average number of parent-teacher meetings.

Locking his eyes on mine, Teo asks, “Manicure?”

I glance down at my fingernails, trying to see why he would think I needed a manicure, when my shoulders are released and pale, icy fingers grip my hand. Chills run through me.

A flat, tenor voice says, “Yes.” And I’m startled to see my fingernails are actually painted. Clear and shiny.

The fingers drop my hand, and my captor walks around to face me. White uniform, white skin, white hair. He’s albino. Who is he?

In part my characters are determined by the type of story I'm telling. In Egypt Rising, I wanted to create a character my granddaughter could admire and want to emulate. I also wanted to create a three dimensional antagonist, a character who despises Olivia yet is not just a paper villain. The current novel I'm working on includes teenagers, one of whom is an Inuit while the other is from Uzbekistan. Why? Because my granddaughter indicated she would love to read a novel that contained teens from these countries.

I found it easy to sketch out the basic plot of Egypt Rising, so the initial writing went quickly. The problem was that I wasn't satisfied with the end result. I moved a pivotal riot scene to the first chapter to give the book a shot of energy to capture readers. I still was missing something. I realized I hadn't made any character come alive because I hadn't captured any of their voices. The end result was that I rewrote the entire novel and changed it from third person to first person (Olivia's point of view). 

Finally, I've been tweaking the novel for several months. Every time I sent it out for review, I'd make a few more changes.

3. As far as what elements of a story are personal necessities for me to have in my novel, I want to have at least two characters who are three dimensional with faults as well as good points. I also want a plot that propels the reader to keep turning pages. I also would like my story to have texture because I enjoy reading novels that have texture. That requires me to add foreshadowing elements, symbols, and in some cases parallel plot elements so that a reader can re-read the novel multiple times and still find lots to enjoy.

The Bloodlines series continues to leave me amazed and desperate for more and this latest installment definately does not dissapoint.

The Indigo Spell continues Sydney's story from just after the point that The Golden Lily ended at.

As in The Golden Lily, it opens into a few scenes which remind us how the Alchemists feel towards the Vampire races and provides more insight into Sydney's ralationship with her own race in conrast to that whith her Vampire friends.

As Sydney constantly battles to keep the identity of her Vampire friends a secret from the humans surrounding them she must also hide her friendshipfrom the other Alchemists.
She finds herself getting pulled into a battle of good versus evil to save not only everyone she cares about but the innocents nearby from an scheming witch who could do no limit of bad. On top of these situations she finds herself falling deeply for Moroi Vampire and commonly-known bad boy Adrian.

Despite them having a mutual understanding of each other that runs deeper that she is willing to accept Sydney must decide if she will follow her head or her heart.

With another excessively long list of hilariarity and absoloutely gorgeous moments what isn't to love about The Indigo Spell??

 I for one adore it and found it just as good as it the books before it. The inclusion of magical elements and new characters is something that was well done and didn't feel as though it had been rushed or an after though.

 Marcus was quite a pushy character and im sure that we havnt seen the last of him. Although I disliked him because of his pushiness and self-assured attitude I find that he was quite a well written character besides that and I like the idea behind him and his group.
Quite a few of the plot twists involving Angeline were ones that at this stage seem to be quite unnecessary although I am sure that more shall be revealled in The Fiery Heart.

Aaaaarrgghhh!!! I simply cannot express my excitement for The Fiery Heart it is the book I absoloutely CANNOT wait for this year and would just about kill for!! Aargh! More Adrian!! <3

“Adrian shook his head, still smiling. "I've said over and over, I'd do anything for you. I just keep hoping it'll be something like, 'Adrian, let's go hot-tubbing' or 'Adrian, take me out for fondue.'"
"Well, sometimes we have to--did you say fondue?" Sometimes it was impossible to follow Adrian's train of thought. "Why in the world would I ever say that?"

The description of Twisted caught my attention straight away and meant that I absolutely HAD to read it!

Cayden and Cam (short for Camille) have been best friends are practically their entire lives.

Cayden is not an average guy, he has super speed and super strength, ever since he hit puberty. Not wanting to be labelled a "freak," he always kept his powers totally to himself, not telling his sister, his girlfriend, or even his best friend.

Cam is tired of being lonely - her parents are ever around - so when Cayden starts to become distant she becomes very concerned. The reason Cayden is acting is because he's learned that there's more to his powers while having met others with secrets of their own. He discovers that his powers are worth killing for, so are his new powers really a gift, or will they ruin everything and maybe even take his life?

Cayden is a good guy, he tries to look out for those he cares about while keeping his powers under wraps, he's a great characters and while some of his actions are funny, some of them are also quite sweet.

Camille is, mostly, perceptive, she's sweet but lonely and really just wants people to care about her. Her friendship with Cayden is absolutely gorgeous, their scenes together are some of my favourites. Though, I have to say that both Cayden and Cam can be a little dense at times.

There are other characters that are hilarious, cocky, some are crazy, and more than a couple are entirely lovable! The characters dynamics and relationships were incredible, although a couple of them did feel really quite shallow, the rest, however, were ones I simply couldn't get enough of. The plot is pacey and intriguing with unique revelations and some immensely awesome action.

An incredibly nice, short read that I read in one sitting, Twisted literally does eave you wanting more of these characters and I think it's almost a given that I'll be checking out the sequels!

I rate Twisted Four out of Five!!!

This book definitely sounded cute when I decided to sign up for this blog tour, but now that I've read Shark Bait, I can honestly say that it is a most phenomenal read.

Now, you may be asking yourself if you should pick it up and give the story a chance...

My opinion is that there is no question about it - if you want a hilarious, sassy, romantic and slightly dramatic read, then pick this novel up immediately!

This novel surprised me from the very beginning...

Camie is almost sixteen and is starting high school for the very first time after being home-schooled her entire life. She's nervous and really wants to make friends. Navigating the social water of high school is a whole new experience, and there is a lot that Camie has to learn, especially when she set eyes on Tristan.

Tristan Daniels - sexy as hell and a completely new level of attainable, but Camie can't resist him, now all she needs is to get his attention - and hold it!

Will she succeed?

Camie is definitely sassy, she has a lot of attitude and very little patience, and maybe a slight temper too. Oh, and she has great taste in music :)

Tristan is drop dead gorgeous, complicated as hell, and more stubborn than a mule (still, a very cute mule) and very protective - you'll see!

Jillian is absolutely wicked, and I don't just mean awesome - she's an evil genius!

Kate is brilliant with her many incredible insights and friendly personality, while Jeff is a gorgeous clown.

The character dynamics are beyond genius, and very quickly you begin to really go for the characters and hope for certain outcomes.

There are some games, the forming of awesome friendships and brilliant alliances and the some definite errors in judgement. Readers are also able to look forward to plenty of movie and T.V. quotes, more than a few puns, and hilarious metaphors galore.

This novel will have you shaking with laughter, totally swooning 100% and almost wishing some of these characters were real! Pacey and addictive, this novel will catch you hook, line and sinker, there's absolutely no doubt about it.

I rate Shark Bait Five out of Five!!!

These novels are so immersive, they drag you in and make you feel the feels ad want the best for the characters, and they definitely provoke a reaction in the reader - whether it is to feel shocked, or to burst out laughing.

And, just so you know, this review is actually really difficult to write because I am THAT desperate to get started on the next book!

In The Other Fish in the Sea, not too much time has passed since the events of Shark Bait.

Relationships between the characters are changing, some even intensifying and a lot is going to happen that will challenge them greatly.

Camie, despite knowing more than she did in Shark Bait, is still very naive and not all that aware of the consequences of some of the things she says and does.

Tristan seems to have settled into his new role well, though that's not to say everything is completely easy. Jillian (aka The Evil Genius, among other names) is more brilliant than ever, though also more mysterious. While Jeff (I absolutely love him!) and Kate (who is beyond awesome) are dealt their own set of cards...

This novel is the ultimate roller-coaster of emotions and events, every twist literally brings a new surprise. The Other Fish in the Sea isn't just told from Camie's point of view, it's told from a few others as well, though Camie still tells most of the story. I loved getting to know more about the rest of the group and everyone else's situations and feelings.

You aren't told which chapters are from which characters perspective, so stay alert and, like Jenn warns at the start of the novel, if you begin reading a new chapter and get confused, then it is probably from a different characters view-point. It is actually really fun deciphering all the clues and little mysteries throughout the novel (I was very pleased with myself for guessing correctly on some of the things going on).

I have to say that some chapters took me quite some time to actually get through because I was laughing so much at what was happening, although this book does have some more serious aspects to it.

In conclusion to review of The Other Fish in the Sea, there are only a few things I can really say: That ending! Oh my god! I need to start Shark Out of Water RIGHT NOW!!! Oh, and when picking up The Other Fish in the Sea, be sure to have book three on hand for continuation, you'll be kicking yourself if you don't!

After the absolutely, positively shocking ending to The Other Fish in the Sea, I hated sparing even a minute before delving head first into this novel...

This book is quite a lot more serious in aspects than the first two.

Told from multiple view-points - this story was surprising from the get-go, and continues to have a gripping story-line. It's also very much about not jumping to conclusions  without all the facts.

Once again in this series, Tristan is being beyond stubborn about something, while Camie continues to be slightly self-absorbed and selfish. Jeff's attitude will surprise readers (I think) and so will Kate's.

Jillian would have to one of my favourite characters of this series.

Shark Out of Water is much more fast paced than Shark Bait and The Other Fish in the Sea.

I really do encourage reader's who love contemporary romance to just give this series the attention it deserves and pick up the books as soon as their can - although this series is quite evocative in the emotional department.

Aside from her husband, one cat, and three out of five fish, everyone living under the Cooksey's roof is female. She's sure her husband will not only be awarded sainthood when he kicks the bucket, but that Jesus will welcome him into heaven with a beer and a congratulatory high-five. Jenn is also of the belief that Bacon should be capitalized and that just being yourself is the best way to go. That is, unless you can be Batman. Always be Batman.
