My Top Ten Covers of 2012

I decided to do a quick post to highlight some incredible book covers. The covers I have selected here are ones that have either been revealed this year, or the book has been published this year.
Here are my favourite book covers from this year:

 .10. Losing Lila

This cover is really eye-catching and bright, it has a great colour scheme that follows perfectly on from the cover of Hunting Lila, plus it is so accurate to the story: showing Lila running. The thing that I love most about this cover is that the title is over the top of the side-mirror of a motorbike, and if you've read this series, you know who that bike is representative of.... Alex!

The Selection .9.

This cover is gorgeous, the colours really stand out, especially the pink, and the layout of the cover is perfect.  The dresses  are so pretty and gorgeous and I love how the tiara sits above the title. This cover is just so pretty, it really draws you into really wanting to read it.

.8. Fury

This cover looks as ethereal as its main character! The colour scheme is really quite stark, with really bright at the same time, and with the way the character is looking forward, it seems really promising for the story. It matches perfectly with the rest of the books in the series (which is a big deal to me). Also, it's not shown here, but the way the back of the girls dress fans out over the back cover is so, so beautiful. Plus, who can get past that title font!

Bitter Blood .7.

This cover is both elegant and sinister and is, as all Morganville Vampires covers are, gorgeous! The girl on the front cover is  styled in a slightly old fashioned way, and definitely a dark way. I love that she has a darkly intense expression and looks deep in thought as Claire often is.

.6. Dearly, Beloved

This cover clearly shows that the cover model has a distinct old fashioned style to her. She is definitely elegant in the way she is looking. The designs around the edge create such an intricate framework for the cover, the set out just simply works perfectly all up, as well as in conjunction with the story.

Darkest Minds .5.

This cover shows a real play on colours, the cover models faces shows a real contrast of light and shadows, with the coloured embellishment positioned well , over the temple, to really back up the "Minds" part of the title. The background colours are another source of contrast put together to frame the face in a kind of relief. The girls' expression really works to draw you in, wanting to read the novel just to decipher that look.

.4. Mind Games

This cover is both simple and complex, the main face is simple in the fact that the expression is obviously daring, while all the background images adding a real complexity that could be seen as being slightly creepy. They are like puzzle pieces being fitted together to make something whole. The colours are beautiful and also incredibly mysterious, with the shading adding a darkness, an eerie feeling.

Opal .3.

This cover is dark, mysterious and utterly gorgeous. The cover model are beautiful and fit the descriptions of the two main characters perfectly. One of the most amazing parts of this cover is the nearly completely translucent figure in the background looking on - the Arum. It's creepy  and incredibly intriguing all at once and really makes this cover amazing. Plus, the colour theme of this cover matches the gemstone that the book is named after.

.2.The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf

This cover is dangerous, intense, beautiful, dark and haunting all at once, I absolutely love it!. It's so captivating and is originally what drew me to reading this novel, even before I read the blurb. It is, also, such an appropriate cover for the story and has a real wild aspect to it. It is simply incredible!

Apollyon .1.

This cover is just SO damn gorgeous. It's like the flower has justburst to life out of the darkness, smouldering in spite of the background, the way it stands out is amazing. I love how there are sparks coming off of the ends of some of the petals.
This cover  works so perfectly with the rest of the cover in the book series and really what else can you expect from a JLA book cover, they are all always simply magnificent!

Cover Reveal: Boyfriend Camp

Boyfriend Camp by J.K. Rock

The summer of her dreams is about to get a reality check.

They said it couldn't be done, but geeky sophomore Lauren Carlson transformed herself into a popular girl after moving to a new school halfway across the country. Amazing what losing her braces and going out for cheerleading will do. Only trouble is, the popular crowd is wearing on Lauren's nerves and she can't wait to return to summer camp where she's valued for her brain instead of her handsprings. She misses her old friends and most of all, her long time camp-only boyfriend, Seth. This year she intends to upgrade their relationship to year-round status once she's broken up with her new, jock boyfriend, Matt. He doesn't even begin to know the real her, a girl fascinated by the night sky who dreams of discovering new planets and galaxies.

But Matt isn't giving her up without a fight. As he makes his case to stay together, Lauren begins to realize his feelings run deeper than she ever would have guessed. What if the guy she thought she was meant to be with forever isn't really The One? Returning to Camp Juniper Point was supposed to ground her uprooted life, but she's more adrift than ever. Everything feels different and soon Lauren's friends are turning on her and both guys question what she really wants. As summer tensions escalate, Lauren wonders if she's changed more than she thought. Will her first big discovery be herself?

Camp Boyfriend is the first in a new series published by Spencer Hill Press on July 2nd, 2013 in both ebook and paperback formats.

Camp Boyfriend does sound quite interesting and I definitely would not mind checking it out one bit :)
What are your thoughts on this description and cover?

Publication date: December 31st 1989
Publisher: Pan Macmillan
Number of Pages:155
Date read: July 3rd 2008
Genre: Young Adult, Realistic Fiction
Source: Bought

(Description source: Goodreads)

Maybe deep down every kid knows his parents want him to be the Pride of the School, the Captain of Cricket and Tennis and Rowing and Darts and Knitting and anything else that's going down.
They don't want to know about the fact that you've had more detentions than any other new student in the history of the school, that you're going out with a girl who doesn't wear a bra to PE, that the Head Swimming Coach is some kind of Nazi whose last job was training the shark in Jaws.

Erle Gatenby has been sent to boarding school to straighten out, but there's about as much chance of that happening as there is of his giving up smoking... or drinking... or falling through the Art Room roof.

Erle's a full tank of petrol... and wild, sexy Melanie Tozer is about to light the match.

Erle Gatenby has been kicked out of his previous school and now must attend Linley boarding school, it isn't ridiculously strict but Erle loves to push the boundaries and do things his own way, which probably isn't always the best way to go about things at times.
But his strong personality and persistence stands him in good stead to make new friends and enemies alike and gives him the courage to pursue the gorgeously stunning Melanie Tozer.

By either his wits or just plain old good luck, Erle lands the girl and finds a heart- warming and strong bond with Melanie that makes him happy for once and fills him with a desire to be the best that he can be. Their passionate, adoring love is gorgeous and through the downfalls of everyday life they are the light in each others lives to keep going.

This quick and enticing novel is hard to adjust to at first, with what I found to be a strange writing style and use of language (I'm not sure whether it is due to my gender or the time in which it was written). But I soon adjusted to it and really came to like both Erle and Melanie, amongst others, at characters.

I will warn that for younger readers there is a risque (sexual) scene or two as well as Young Adult themes (and references) and to read at your own rick/ maturity and to please be aware of this. I know that this particular book is not to everyone's taste but I really enjoyed The Great Gatenby and found it to be witty as well as serious in places.
"Everyone gazed at the girl, who was sitting on the arm of a chair in the middle of the room. Her parents were red with humiliation. The girl stared right back at the Housemaster. I fell in love with her on the spot."

I rate The Great Gatenby Four out of Five!

OPAL Trailer Reveal!

OPAL (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

USA TODAY Bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout, lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you’ve heard about her state aren’t true. When she’s not hard at work writing, she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russell, Loki. Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class where she spent most of her time writing short stories….which explains her dismal grades in math. Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She also writes adult romance under the name J. Lynn.

Cover Reveal: EXTRACTED

Extracted (The Lost Imperials Book One) by Sherry D. Ficklin & Tyler H. Jolley

Welcome to the war.
The Tesla Institute is a premier academy that trains young time travelers called Rifters. Created by Nicola Tesla, the Institute seeks special individuals who can help preserve the time stream against those who try to alter it.
The Hollows is a rogue band of Rifters who tear through time with little care for the consequences. Armed with their own group of lost teens--their only desire to find Tesla and put an end to his corruption of the time stream.
Torn between them are Lex and Ember, two Rifters with no memories of their life before joining the time war.
When Lex’s girlfriend dies during a mission, the only way he can save her is to retrieve the Dox, a piece of tech which allows Rifters to re-enter their own timeline without collapsing the time stream. But the Dox is hidden deep within the Telsa Institute, which means Lex must go into the enemy camp. It’s there he meets Ember, and the past that was stolen from them both comes flooding back.
Now armed with the truth of who they are, Lex and Ember must work together to save the future before the battle for time destroys them both…again.

Extracted will be published by Spencer Hill Press on the 11th of December 2013.

I love this cover, it was so not what I was expecting after reading the description, but it is brilliant. The steampunk elements to it are my favourite part and the description is so intriguing!
I can't wait to get my hands on this one :)

Waiting on Wednesday! (#10)

This is a weekly meme 'Waiting on Wednesday' that I take part in, it is hosted by Breaking the Spine

(Description from Goodreads)
Danger intensifies for the Shadowhunters as the New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices trilogy comes to a close.

Cover Reveal: BLOOD BOUND

Blood Bound by Keshia Swaim

Starting college a year early is hard. Starting fae college and learning to protect the world from the Unseelie is harder.
Brielle Reed has always been an over-achiever, but this time she may have bitten off more than she can chew. Between her crash course in fae politics, struggles to control her new mind-reading ability, training sessions with the demanding Dr. Schwartz, and discoveries about the father who is still a mystery to her, Brielle finds herself longing for a chance at a normal life.
But she may not get that chance. Or chance at a life at all, for that matter.

Blood Bound will be released on the 10th of September 2013, in both paperback and ebook formats. I really like the description for this book, I haven't really read many fae books so this really intrigues me. I will definitely be checking Blood Bound out!

Yes, there are two covers for Blood Bound. And it's up to you to vote for which one you like best!

You can vote here:

Personally, I like the cover on the right best, there's just more to it, but both are great :)
Though I think it would be cool if the covers were combined, with the girl on the front and the hand on the back of the cover, though that is just my personal opinion.
